When I “Retire”
Some of my readers out there may be making this prediction with the best of intentions. I have to admit I don’t remember ever making such plans. And as my life has been a perfect reflection of John Lennon’s “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” It is probably a good thing that I did not think about retirement much.
For me retirement has been just changing one job for another. Like my mother, who worked well into her 80’s, I have kept up that tradition so far.
I did relish the thought of not having “a boss” anymore, however. That I do think was the appeal of retirement. Ah to be in “control” of your life. How great to have nobody telling you what to do, NOT!!
The reality is that the “truly retired” are looking down on us from heaven and probably having a good laugh. My mother, having taken on the responsibility as my guardian angel, has still not retired, I fear.
Still, I have known many who looked to retirement as the time to complete their bucket lists. They have traveled, played golf every day and enjoyed not heading for “work” ever again.
This page is for us to share our thoughts and experiences as “older folk.” I am not crazy about the Senior Citizen label, but my sagging body, and white hair cannot be denied.
Tell us what your plan, if you are not there yet. Tell us what you are doing now that you have “retired.” There are lots of topics for discussion on this page. And this is only the beginning.
